A Problem Solved

It was such a worry to know what was
the best thing to do for Mum.

Dad was no longer around to help. Mum couldnot change a light bulb without assistance. John and I  had to drive to her house once a week (a trip of about 1 hour a each way) just to mow her lawn, take her shopping at thesupermarket, and generally help her with all those chores that had become too much for her.

The final straw came when Mum's health deteriorated very quickly last winter. She needed someone around all the time to look after her while she recovered, so she came to stay with us. It was obvious to us that she could no longer continue living alone. That is when we decided on a Granny Flat.

We checked all the options:

  • A retirement home was just too expensive.

  • A home unit, although affordable, presented the same problems as Mum's current house, but without the distance factor.

  • Mum was not ready for a nursing home

It's comforting to know that Mum now lives independently, yet is safe and well cared for.  It is a totally rewarding and enriching experience for all of us.

A Granny Flat behind our house allows Mum the unique opportunity to enjoy precious time with family members; to retain her privacy, dignity and zest for life; spend time with our kids and pass on treasured memories.

Although Mum was used to living in a large elegant home, we found that her Granny Flat could be just as luxurious and there was also space for Tarzan, her 5 year old Chihuahua.

With the stress taken out of our lives, the whole family including mum, is much happier and relaxed.
